Its the different variety of characters which also helps bring viewers in.

That is true, I think most people can identify with at least one of the characters in the series, and a lot of people can look to them as role models, on one of the Sg-1 dvd's Amanda Tapping said that she gets a lotof younger and older women saying how empowering to women her character has been.

Jack is my favourite character, second fav is Sam. Others are great too though.
