I have read all of the Horizon series to date and i think it is excellent.
If it was a tv show it would be as good as Sg-1 and Atlantis.

I'm enjoying it, however, my only complain is.. When was the last time they used the Stargate?? Ok, so they have used it, but when was the last time they used it to go to a new planet which they haven't been before, just as explorers?
*shrugs*

We've had a couple of stand alone exploration episodes: Providence, Valiant off the top of my head.

At our most recent meeting, we discussed how the second half of season two was going to focus more on stand alone episodes and smaller arcs. I see what you mean, since we haven't had a good old fashioned exploratory episode since Providence. Many of the ideas we pitched in the forum are stand alones that we plan on using in the second half. As far as the rest of the first half goes, I'm afraid there won't be much exploration. "Parti Pris" will see a new rather interesting planet, but we won't be there long. "The Cold and Distant Stars" doesn't involve the gate too much. "Catch 22" does involve exploration, but it isn't the main plot and the planet is uninhabited. "The Devil to Pay" will mostly be on Earth. I think that if an episode is written well, it can entertain regardless. However, I enjoy exploration and stand alone episodes quite a bit, and after "Parti Pris" and "Catch 22," I'd like my next endeavor to be an episode not so arc based.

I think that if an episode is written well, it can entertain regardless. I totally agree with that, and I am enjoying it a lot. But I do rather miss the gate exploration missions ;D

Interesting how you opted for second half to be exploration.

Wasn't so much opting as it was just kind of ending up that way. Usually you would think things would be slow in the first half and build up to huge exciting arcs (SG-1 S8 is a perfect example). It seems that we've got quite a few arc stories in the beginning this time. Of course, the back half will still be entertaining, and the stand alones could be considered the calm before a storm.

Mebbe. ;D
Season finales aree always big episodes, so it's obvious that it wouldn't be a stand alone episode. Nothing is defined yet, but let's just say that we always plan to top the finale of the previous season.

In a way, Season One ended in a seven episode arc comprised of much smaller arcs. I saw it all as the climax of the season, all involving the races of the Ascendant Empire. But yes, the seven episode arc could be broken down into first, a three episode sub-arc (if that isn't a real term, it is now) of "The Enoly," "In Purgatory's Shadow," and "Counterpoint." Then of course, there's "Home Front," which serves as a break and bridge between the two. And then there's another three episode arc involving the battle for Ultera: "Absolution," "Secrets and Lies," and "Judgement Day." Of course, things may not go the same from season to season.
